Madoc Martial Arts Club

Welcome to Madoc Martial Arts Club, the home of martial arts in the Madoc area for 39 years.

What We teach

We teach Karate, Jiu Jitsu, My Jong Law Horn Pai Kung Fu, Hsing I Kung Fu, Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung.

Class Times and Location
We hold classes every Monday evening at Centre Hastings Secondary School Gym 3, children from 6:00 to 7:00; adults from 7:00 to 8:30. (We switch to Wednesday nights for outdoor training during the months of July and August).

Children’s Classes
We follow the traditional belt system - White, Yellow, Orange, Green. Blue, Brown and Black. Requirement for promotion depends on attitude, attendance and proper execution of technique. Each child is treated as an individual and encouraged to do his or her best. Our work-outs are fairly brisk and highly disciplined. Overall attitude is stressed. Students are instructed in the proper ethical behaviour necessary for martial arts such as respect for elders, respect for law and community, respect for property, courtesy, self-reliance, self confidence and leadership. The ultimate goal of the program is "mastery over the self". After a student has succeeded to the Yellow Belt, he or she may want to join the Leadership Program where students develop from a basic Junior Leader level to full-fledged instructors. We also promote the Karate Kids Don't Do Drugs campaign supported by many businesses and service groups in the area.

Of primary importance in our program is Street-Proofing and Self-Confidence. Our Complete Child Safety Program features every aspect of child safety from escaping adult attacks either on the ground or in cars, in crowded places, in isolated places to dealing with bullies anywhere singly or during a "swarming". Our Head Held High Program teaches children to develop pride and confidence in themselves through repeated drills in voice, eye contact, posture and positive attitude training. All of these drills are tempered with the discipline of traditional martial arts. The goal is not to create bullies but to develop young people who have the discipline to succeed in life.

New This Year:

For thousands of years, Chinese martial arts instructors have taught simple, everyday knowledge about health alongside skills in self defence. Your child will begin to learn techniques to improve problems such as asthma, indigestion, nervousness, simple headaches, sleeplessness, and problems with focus and concentration. A monthly bulletin keeps you informed of what your child is learning. You are encouraged to closely monitor your child's progress.

Adult Classes
Men and women of all ages are welcome. Our training is based on the old ‘war art” concept. We prepare you for real self defence. Everyone in our class is serious about their training and their desire to improve their level of fitness. Real self defence is all about attitude. If you commit to your training you will develop real self defence skills.

The following are just a few of the skills we teach:
  • Stand up & ground
  • two or more assailants
  • armed/unarmed assailants
  • tactical awareness and decision making at high speeds
  • Drill scenarios
  • Tactical weapons
